Sweet traditions

Like many of you out there, I'll be knee deep in Christmas decorations this weekend.  Sifting through bins and sorting through boxes.  It's typically my husband's job to handle the bulk of the outdoor lighting (I'm responsible for the decorative touches) while the interior is all mine.  I'm feeling quite a bit of pressure now that the first week of December is already over, and I barely have anything decorated. I was hoping to get an early start this year, but that didn't work out.

We bought our tree (we always get one real tree and the rest of the house has smaller, artificial ones).  Once the tree has a day to open up fully, I'll get started on the lights...a job I dread. I'm much more enthusiastic about adding all of the sentimental and beautiful ornaments I've collected over the years - many from childhood.

My heart always skips a beat when I open my ornament box; seeing all of the ornaments again after a year just thrills me!  I swear I turn into a kid again each and every Christmas!  I can't help it - each ornament tells a story.  It always takes me much longer than I'd like to put them on all of the trees just because I stop and reminisce after taking each one out.  Talk about a sentimental journey!

Psssst...
Don't forget that Sunday is St. Nicholas Day

Remind your little ones to leave their slippers or shoes outside their bedroom door tomorrow night and fill them with little candies or gifts to discover Sunday morning!  They'll know St. Nicholas stopped by for a visit!

Last St. Nicholas Day, our then-two-year-old son found his slippers stuffed with a little bag filled with chocolates and candies, a little toy car wrapped up in pretty paper, and a sheet of Christmas stickers :)

A wonderful prelude to Christmas!

Enjoy your weekend and don't be too busy!

  1. I love opening up my ornament box too! Then as I let the kids put them on the tree I tell the story about each ornament. Have a great weekend.

  2. Christmas is all about memories for me as well. I love the season and the giving and love it inspires. What a cute idea for St Nicolas day...special traditions are something he will remember for the rest of his life.
