Summer Dishes

My Farmer's Market dinnerware set is my favorite summer dinnerware.  There's just something so cute about it ~ perfect for casual summer dining (even picnics!)

5 or so years ago, I bought a few sets of these super cute, farm-stand dishes at Walmart. I used them for the summer season, and then packed them away in a spare room closet to make room for fall and holiday dishes. BIG MISTAKE!

In our house, once things get packed away, good luck trying to dig them back out! They soon became buried 4-5 layers deep at the backmost corner of the closet. Each summer, I'd ask my husband to help me dig them out and yet, there they remained.

Well, I wasn't going to let yet another summer season pass me by without them! What good is having seasonal dinnerware if you never use it, right?! And we all know that men just don't understand the urgency of all things seasonal and decorative!

So after asking and asking, I took it upon myself  a couple of years ago to tackle the closet and find those dishes!

And I'm proud to say - viola! I dug them out!

And here are the salad plates and mugs on my kitchen shelf...sooo cute!

They were even cuter than I remembered! I knew the mugs and salad plates were decorated, but I didn't know that the insides of the bowls were, too! And the mugs...oh my! The mugs are HUGE 16 oz. mugs! Nice and weighty! And decorated all the way around!

It was worth digging them out! Even though I just about died moving all of the boxes (and having the dish boxes literally crumble apart in my hands as I was trying to wrangle them out of the closet!!)

I'm glad I bought them when I did; I haven't seen them since!  I have seen similar dessert plates selling for more than this entire dinnerware set!  Yikes!

What is your favorite summer dinnerware?

  1. These are so cute! I have a set of orange Pfaltzgraf dishes that are square and have a yellow blossom in the center. Like you, they are buried somewhere. I have a set of lemon glasses that look so cute with them.

I love the rack you get to change out. Clever, girlfriend!

  3. Judy, those are so sweet. I love, love the cheerful colors and images.

I like anything in summer that is playful and colorful. My favorite summer dishes are some that I have never shown in a picture....I need to do that. Ha.

Do NOT tell anyone....but I am starting to think of Fall with my sewing. I am hopeless. Hehheh

  5. OMG so funny! My house is the same way. If my hubby tries to take something down to our unfinished icky basement I know I will never see it again until I ask and ask again for it. I really don't like going down there.
Your dishes are adorable, I have never seen anything like them.

  7. These are so cute and I've never seen them before! I came by from Barb's. Sometimes it's easy to see why someone doesn't get comments like the blog is hard to read or loads slowly. I don't see any thing like that here! Your son's play house and your cakes are all so adorable! I will be back by!

  8. Judy, you may get two comments from me! I tried to leave one but don't remember seeing that it needed approval before publishing so I'm leaving another! I came by from Barb's and just wanted to say you have an adorble blog and I will be back. (And that I love those dishes! Your closets sound like mine.)

    Dawn

  10. Judy, dear, thanks for your input yesterday. You were really kind to take that amount of time to put your thoughts down...I appreciate it.

I am playing Mother Earth again and I have to stop it! I am a bit discouraged myself because I am starting to feel bogged down with blogging. I cannot keep up! And, then, I take on everything around me. Holy Cow....I need to settle down. Hyper Barb....hyper Barb....hehehehe!

    Always appreciate you! Happy weekend.

  11. Those are the cutest summer dishes! I wish I had them...

I found you after reading the comment you left on sweet Barb's blog BELLA VISTA (http://barbsgoodlife.blogspot.com/).

I just had to see your son's playhouse. It is fantastic! What a happy little boy he must be to have such loving parents!

You are right when you mentioned (on Barb's blog) about the ratio of blog views to comments not adding up. I see that you are having a quick succession of views... and not as many comments. I read somewhere that only ONE out of every 100,300 or maybe it was 500 (can't remember) viewers leave a comment.

Maybe it is because comments take time, or not everyone has a blog of their own and so they don't feel the need to comment. At any rate it is nice to have repeat views and comments.

Lately, even with my slowed down blogging, I still get my few loyal viewers supporting me. I don't have time to worry about new followers, blog views,or the amount of comments left right now.

When I have more time I will participate in some memes... They are a good way to get found and also find more fun blogs.

Your blog is lovely and I will return.

    Talk to you soon ;)

  12. Those are sweet dishes Judy. I find that I get in a rutt with dishes, and "forget" about some of my tableware. I've really got to get on the ball and use my things. After all, who is more important to use pretty things on than our own family!!

    Thanks for the motivation Judy!
