Yeah it was in rough shape, and not-so-very-cute looking with the scratches and rust, but it had potential! A diamond in the rough!
So my husband took it apart, piece by piece - sandblasting (down to the bare metal) what he could, fixing what was fixable, and replacing what was obviously too worn. He repainted it with automotive paint for durability and I chose a Ferrari red paint that glistens in the sunlight with fleck in it.
I asked him to paint something cute on it to personalize it, so we came up with "Judy's Floral Delivery" (since I carry flowers in the basket) followed by the year of the bike.
We bought new white wall tires, a new white leather seat with embossed flowers in the leather (my hubby found it at the bike shop on clearance for a steal!), new handbars, new handlebar grips, and a darling New England woven basket :)
I absolutely love it! It turned out beautifully!
This past summer, my husband found ANOTHER bike - this time with the metal basket. He plans to begin restoration on it this winter. I'm thinking of painting this next one either pink or lavendar...
which would you chose??
Pink...definitely pink! LOL That bike restoration looks fantastic!!! I love it.

ReplyDeleteThat bike is so cute, hubby did a very good job...the color is perfect...I think pink on the new one, to co-ordinate with the red...
happy day...glenda
This is fabulous. Wonderful...I like it so much!!! Awesome Job!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I'm looking for one, too. Your bike before, is almost like the one I had in 1950.
ReplyDeleteIt should be painted pink
ReplyDeleteI would choose pink Judy. I love your red bike though. . . red would be my fav!!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, excellent work. You must be so excited. Now doesn't THIS remind you of Anne of Avonlea? I want one too. :D
ReplyDeleteI would go with pink too. How adorable it'll be! George still hasn't touched the one we bought two years ago. I keep telling myself that he'll "get to it" this winter. I think I'm going to have him paint mine yellow.
ReplyDeleteI love the red bike so much!!! Can't believe how much that updated it! I'm following your blog to find out what color your next bike turns out to be.
ReplyDeleteI love vintage bikes...would you consider renting your husband out? ;)
ReplyDeleteLove your bike! Your husband did a great job!
ReplyDeleteOooh la la... VERY nice!
ReplyDeleteThe red is absolutely amazing! I may have gone with red if I had seen this post before, but I truly love my turquoise. I love our bikes even more because they are the product of someone who loves us very much...your husband, my dad.
