Table Setting Anxiety

I'm in awe of those of you that can pull together an elegant table setting so effortlessly.  I've already been panicking over setting my Thanksgiving table. We're just two weeks away from the big day and I have no idea what to do.  I can never seem to pull it together the way I envision it in my mind, and I can never find the right linens and tableware for that perfectly coordinated look that I'm after!

Tablecloth or runner?  Placemats or chargers?  Centerpiece??  Candles - tapers, pillars, votives?? Which dinnerware?  It's moments like these that I want to run to the nearest Pottery Barn or Williams Sonoma and buy absolutely everything they display for a Thanksgiving table...that's the only way I'd be able to achieve a lovely table setting!

I was watching Martha Stewart On Demand show how to set a Thanksgiving table and although I would never have chosen the pieces she had, I was blown away by how beautiful the table looked once she was finished layering everything.  I just don't have the knack.

So I'm going to have to pull out what I have and see what I have to work with. For those of you with the magic touch for beautiful table settings, what's your secret?!  Please share!

  1. Judy... you are the most creative person I know and I have always loved what you do. However, being of the same ilk as you, and never being happy with my own designs, I have found this blog to be a life saver for me:

  2. Judy, so glad you are feeling better.

Your table will be lovely....do not worry. Take your things out, look at them and choose what makes your heart sing! I promise you success if you do this.

    Can't wait to see.

  3. Oh, rats, I forgot to tell you. I just added a companion page to my blog which will be dedicated to decorting with what makes you happy. It is my secret.

Check it out.......I'm just getting started. I believe so many would enjoy their homes more if they would simply follow their hearts and not worry. You are much to talented to fret about this, young lady.

You are so talented and I KNOW your table will be lovely. :) I actually set mine up for a little test run this week and I can email you pics if you want some ideas...let me know! My email is lisanchris@gmail.com I'm doing a lot of rustic and simple with just a hint of elegance. :) I have a kid's table too that is super cute. It's fun huh? lol

I actually got that stencil in a scrapbook fall package years ago. :( But I'm sure you can possibly find some like it at craft stores.

  6. Layering is the key. Not being so hard on yourself helps too =). Just have fun with it...layer lots of items into your table....use candlelight and wahlah...you will have a table that will make you happy.

  7. I'm just clueless when it comes to these things. I always think something looks way better than it actually does. Maybe I dont give myself enough credit. You do a fabulous job at whatever you do....I'm so jealous!!:)
